What vaccines do you need to go to Uganda?
Travelers heading to Uganda should ensure they are up-to-date on routine vaccines and consider additional vaccinations specific to the region. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends the following vaccines for Uganda:
Routine Vaccinations
Ensure routine vaccinations are up to date, including MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), DTP (diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis), varicella (chickenpox), polio, and the annual flu vaccine.
Yellow Fever
A yellow fever vaccination is mandatory for entry into Uganda. Travelers must present a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate upon arrival.
Hepatitis A
Hepatitis A is recommended for most travelers as it can be contracted through contaminated food or water.
Hepatitis B
Hepatitis B vaccination is recommended, especially for travelers who may have intimate contact with locals, undergo medical procedures, or stay for an extended period.
Additionally, purchasing travel insurance is crucial to cover potential medical expenses, trip cancellations, and other unexpected events. Consulting a healthcare provider 4-6 weeks before travel is essential to ensure all vaccinations are up to date and to discuss any additional health precautions.
