Do children need a separate visa to enter Uganda?
Yes, all children ranging from infants to toddlers need to acquire individual visas for Uganda entry. Understanding the visa regulations for children in Uganda must be done before planning a family trip to the country. Every child between newborn and teenager requires a valid personal visa to enter Uganda.
Each child needs a separate application
Each child must hold their own individual passport in order to apply for a Uganda e-Visa. Passport inclusion under a parent's document is not accepted. Each child under your care needs to complete their own e-Visa application process regardless of their age. The application process for minors requires their valid passport and in certain cases may also need their birth certificate or consent letter from both parents.
Required documents for minors
To apply for a child’s visa, you’ll typically need:
- A copy of the child’s passport (valid for at least six months)
- A recent passport-sized photo
- A birth certificate (to confirm parent-child relationship)
- A consent letter (if traveling with one parent or another guardian)
Visa types are the same
The type of e-Visa issued to children depends on their travel purpose and matches exactly with the adult visa types (tourist, transit or multiple entry). The fees together with processing durations remain equivalent to those charged to adult visa applicants.
All children who plan to enter Uganda through the e-Visa system need to obtain their individual e-Visa credentials. Parents are encouraged to apply for their children’s e-Visas at least 10 to 15 days before travel, as the processing time is usually 3–7 business days, but may take longer during peak seasons.
